The Nonprofit Student Space
for Coworking and Colearning uniquely at Burlington Mall

This is your place.

Uniquely where high school and college students from different schools and backgrounds gain exposure and experience to shine on their college, internship and/or career applications, by working and learning together on projects from biotechnology, pharmaceutical and healthcare companies (“biopharma”) and other innovative companies and are paid by the companies.

Who We Are

Massachusetts is the world’s leading hub for innovation in biopharma, education, and other fields.

Medicines and other innovations invented here are improving lives everywhere, every day, faster, in the U.S. and around the world.

Wissera is a nonprofit venture studio, where we create a new era of biopharma, learning and aging for charitable and scientific purposes. Our latest educational initiative is the student space for coworking and colearning uniquely at Burlington Mall (Burlington, Massachusetts).

The student space is year-round and there is no membership fee.

The space is also a fresh approach to giving opportunity for exposure and experience to students and their parents who are not networked in the working world of innovative industries.

Akin to sport clubs, where students from different schools play together in a club, the student space is where students from different schools work and learn together on projects of shared interest.

Founders

Founders of Wissera are Fennell, Fennrant, Philippa and Steve Wisseh, biopharma biostatistician.

The journey to Wissera today began many years ago in 2008 in Kendall Square (Cambridge, Massachusetts) as BIOCIS, a biopharma center for international service, then in Chicago in 2014. Wissera represents a new era of biopharma, learning and aging.

Uses of The Student Space

The space is where high school and college students from different schools and backgrounds gain exposure and experience by working and learning with partners/friends on projects from biotechnology, pharmaceutical and healthcare companies (“biopharma”) and other innovative companies.

The space is for collaborative working and collaborative learning.

We help students get project work, but students will take the lead as in the real world.

Also at the space, students may work on their group projects with other students, work together on topics to publish as journal articles or books, get early exposure to college majors from current college majors and professors, tutor or be tutored, take classes, attend events, etc.

Projects We Seek

Projects best suited for the space are those that:

  • Are data projects, operational, science, technology, social media, etc.
  • Do not require experience to get experience -- but interest and curiosity.
  • Are non-confidential, non-proprietary, and non-regulated.
  • Can be done remotely and collaboratively in small groups, on their own computers.
  • May leverage their learnings from coursework in mathematics, science, technology, etc.
  • May leverage their social media acumen and/or digital gaming dexterity.
  • Are paid by the project company (students earn a stipend while gaining early exposure and experience).

While some nonprofits collect money and other donations to give away, we get work to give work to students for all the benefits of early exposure and early experience, including brighter futures for students and new talent pipelines for companies/businesses.

Students Who Can Benefit

Students who can benefit from the space include:

Students who want to work and learn with students from different schools.

Students who want an alternative to typical service jobs.

Students who want to shine on their internship applications with prior experience.

Why The Student Space

The student space was conceived and created by Philippa Wisseh and biopharma industry biostatistician Steve Wisseh to give their high school kids early exposure to biopharma and other innovative industries.

We have expanded in scope to include other high school students who want early exposure to the working world of the biopharma and other innovative industries, get early exposure by working and learning together on projects from biopharma and other innovative companies.

When we were looking to create the space, we wanted it outside of home and outside of a school campus, public library, coffee shop, one-size-fits-all coworking center, and traditional office buildings tucked in isolation after 5 pm or closed on weekends, and thus a new era of coworking and colearning was launched at the flagship Burlington Mall in Burlington, Massachusetts.
